Fonterra Milk for Schools (whole dvd)

Milk in schools should have begun today however the milk won't be arriving until next Tuesday.  Our first 'drinking' day will be next Wednesday 6th August.  Please email myself and/or the office if you do NOT wish your child to have milk.  Thanks so much.

The video below shows what will happen with the cartons!  So cool.

Food for Thought - Session 2

Label Reading was the focus of today's session.
We looked at the labels of some of our favourite cereals.  We used this poster and other information to find the nutritional value.

*  Fat (total) needs to be less than 10grams
*  Sugars needs to be less than 10grams
    however;
Cereal with real/dried fruit can be up to 25grams
*  Sodium (Salt) needs to be less than 400mg
*  Dietary Fibre needs to be more than 5grams
*  Energy needs to be as low as possible

RS = Pams Rice Snaps     WB = Pams Wheat-Biscuits     CS = Pams Coco Snaps
CF = Pams Cornflakes     SB = Kelloggs Sultana Bran      C = Uncle Toby's Cheerios
O = Harraways Oat Singles (flavoured)

Wheat Bix and Plain Porridge are the best cereals to have as they have the most ticks.

We also looked at how much sugar was in drinks sold at the dairy and supermarket!  Wow!!  Check out all the sugar in these bottles!  V still has the most sugar as it is only a 350ml bottle.

Food for Thought - Session One

We had a great session with Nova this afternoon.
Nova discussed the healthy food pyramid, food colour groups, vitamins and minerals.

Vitamin C = Fights off all the winter bugs and flu
Vitamin A = Helps with your sight.
Vitamin D = Works with calcium to give you nice healthy bones.

We also talked a lot about the amount of sugar in some of the foods we eat.  For example, Nutrigrain is a cereal with one of the highest levels of sugar.
